The other day, I was chatting with a few seniors in our community about homeownership, specifically, how to protect your home once it’s finally paid off. It’s such a huge milestone, right? You've put in decades of hard work and sacrifice leading up to that incredible moment when the mortgage is gone. But don't be fooled, there's still some work to do if you want to stay protected. I’ve been hearing more and more stories lately that break my heart, so I'm here to spread the word of property fraud or title theft, something every homeowner (but especially seniors) should know about.
You may be wondering, "But Kelly, where do I even begin?" Don’t worry, I've got you covered.
First, start with the state of Georgia notification link and register to be notified there.
And if you live in one of the following counties, click on the county link and register for notifications with your county too:
Unfortunately, other north metro counties like Forsyth and Gwinnett don’t have their own links. And if you don’t live in one of these counties, google the name of your county and title fraud notifications to check to see if your county has a place to register there too.
Scammers are clever, so it’s more important than ever to protect yourself against property fraud. Stay informed, sign up for alerts, and lean on professionals who truly have your back.
If you or someone you know has questions about keeping your home safe, let’s talk. My job isn’t just to help you buy or sell, it’s to help you protect what you’ve worked so hard for.
